It was a great off-season for Sam Reakes, which
included a marriage engagement to girlfriend Aimee Goulette. While the wedding is still in the early
planning stages, Reakes is focused on the upcoming racing season, which started
unexpectedly this past weekend when the opportunity arose to get back in a
Sportsman Modified at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. Reakes also turned some fast laps in his 360 Sprint Car in
preparation for the ‘Methanol Meltdown’ scheduled for this weekend at Fulton
Speedway.
Reakes didn’t take long to get reacquainted with
a Sportsman car, as he dominated his qualifying heat race, and battled for the
win in the 35 lap, $1000 to win main event on Jan Corcoran Memorial Weekend at
Canandaigua Motorsports Park. Reakes
led several laps, and went back and forth with the eventual race winner
multiple times in the late stages of the event before settling for second.
“I had a blast driving the Sportsman again. Us Sprint Car guys are not used to doing 35
laps, so we tend to max out at 25”, jokes Reakes after the race. “I really have to thank Michael Miller for
the chance to drive his car”.
Reakes will be at Fulton Speedway this weekend
for his first Sprint Car race of the 2013 season. From there, he will travel back to Can Am Motorsports Park in
Lafargeville, New York where just one year ago, he captured his first Empire
Super Sprint A-Main victory.
Sam Reakes IV and his team plan to run as many
shows as possible in 2013, while not focusing on one particular series. Reakes plans to run more of an ‘outlaw’
schedule, racing at tracks closer to home, and following some of the Patriot
tour events when they come to tracks such as Brockville and Cornwall.
