Sam Reakes IV Scores Top Five Finish in Empire Super Sprint Season Opener at Can Am Motorsports Park

The 2013 racing season got underway this past Friday night for Sam Reakes IV as they traveled to Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park. Optimism was high in the Reakes camp, returning to Can Am as the defending race winner, capturing the checkered flag in April of 2012 with just a handful of starts in a Sprint Car under his belt.

Reakes finished third in his qualifying heat race, and made the redraw for a top 12 starting spot in the A-main. He drew position number three, and lined up inside row two. Multiple cautions slowed the pace early on, but when the race finally go going, Reakes maintained a top five position throughout the 25 lap race, and crossed the finish line in fifth place.

“It was a good run for us. Great way to start the season”, says Reakes. “I really like coming to Can Am, it is a big, fast track and we do really well here”.

Next on the schedule for Reakes will be this coming Friday night at Black Rock Speedway with the Patriot Sprints.

Sam Reakes IV would like to thank all of their sponsors for the 2013 season. They include Whittaker’s Cars and Trux, Around Town Plumbing and Heating, Town Mechanical, Alpine Stars, All Phase Construction, Advanced Hearing Aid Centers, Billings Automotive and Mike Woodring Racing.

Sam Reakes IV Returns to Site of First Empire Super Sprint Victory This Friday Night at Can Am Motorsports Park

It was just one year ago that Sam Reakes IV traveled to Can Am Motorsports Park and won his first A-main event after only a pair of previous starts in a 360 Sprint Car. Sam will return to the site of his first win this coming Friday night hoping for a similar performance in the 25 lap $1600 to win ESS regular season opener.

Last year’s win took many people by surprise as Sam held off ESS champion Chuck Hebing to grab his first career ESS victory. After a year of experience under his belt in the 360 Sprint Car division, Reakes is excited to get back to where it all began one year ago.

“Last year at Can Am was pretty awesome”, says Reakes. “We were all pretty new to the Sprint Car, and we were able to hold off one of the best in the business to get the win. I am looking forward to getting back to Can Am, and try to do it all over again”.

Reakes intends to run more of an “Outlaw” type schedule this year, hitting events that are closer to home in both the Empire Super Sprints and the Patriot Sprint Tour. This will help cut back on some of the travel, running events within a couple hours of their central New York home, as well as the Canadian Tour events with the Patriots.

Sam Reakes IV Ready For ‘Methanol Meltdown’ at Fulton Speedway This Weekend; Sportsman Ride at Canandaigua Almost Leads to Victory

It was a great off-season for Sam Reakes, which included a marriage engagement to girlfriend Aimee Goulette.  While the wedding is still in the early planning stages, Reakes is focused on the upcoming racing season, which started unexpectedly this past weekend when the opportunity arose to get back in a Sportsman Modified at Canandaigua Motorsports Park.  Reakes also turned some fast laps in his 360 Sprint Car in preparation for the ‘Methanol Meltdown’ scheduled for this weekend at Fulton Speedway.

Reakes didn’t take long to get reacquainted with a Sportsman car, as he dominated his qualifying heat race, and battled for the win in the 35 lap, $1000 to win main event on Jan Corcoran Memorial Weekend at Canandaigua Motorsports Park.  Reakes led several laps, and went back and forth with the eventual race winner multiple times in the late stages of the event before settling for second.

“I had a blast driving the Sportsman again.  Us Sprint Car guys are not used to doing 35 laps, so we tend to max out at 25”, jokes Reakes after the race.  “I really have to thank Michael Miller for the chance to drive his car”.

Reakes will be at Fulton Speedway this weekend for his first Sprint Car race of the 2013 season.  From there, he will travel back to Can Am Motorsports Park in Lafargeville, New York where just one year ago, he captured his first Empire Super Sprint A-Main victory.

Sam Reakes IV and his team plan to run as many shows as possible in 2013, while not focusing on one particular series.  Reakes plans to run more of an ‘outlaw’ schedule, racing at tracks closer to home, and following some of the Patriot tour events when they come to tracks such as Brockville and Cornwall.
